There are, of course, a million (or more) inspiring beautiful spots in New York - ask 8 million people, you'll get 8 million answers.
But these are my go-to's when I'm craving beauty and magic in the city…

John Derian, East Village - A whimsical, nostalgic, beautiful nook (actually two of them). If you like glitter and pickle ornaments, do yourself a favor and visit during the holiday season. I almost always pop into the community garden next door if it's open and Karma art gallery down the block
and a little farther down that same block…
Salter House, East Village - An ethereal wonderland of home decor and clothes that make me feel like I'm in The Secret Garden. Also visit their art gallery next door to the Brooklyn Heights location!! photo @salter.house

Mexico in My Pocket, Carroll Gardens - I've been truly obsessed with Mexican folk art since I was a kid and until I can make my way to Mexico City and Oaxaca, this really is like a tiny trip to Mexico (and the owner is a lovely human).
Elizabeth Street Garden, Nolita - An actual secret garden (except for everyone knows it). When I “discovered” this garden with my friends almost 20 years ago it really felt like a hidden oasis.
But it's actually very popular, which is a good thing because it has been under threat of disappearing and can always use more supporters. My life hack is to go on a cold rainy day and have the place more or less to myself. Magical is really the only word for it.
Brooklyn Bridge Park - I somehow slept on this forever and only started getting to know this wonder of New York (carousel ✔️, river ✔️, roller skating rink, meadows, public art ✔️✔️✔️) when my friend took me on an adventure walk there a few years ago.
If you go in the late spring or summer there are nooks where you can stand and be completely immersed in plants and not see a sliver of concrete.
…Restaurants are a whole other chapter for another day, but as a bonus: the best gelato (in the world?) - Evelina in Fort Greene.
The restaurant is open year round, but the gelato is a summertime-only treat.
