Abstract Watercolor DIY: Skillshare Class

My very first Skillshare class is live! We're creating a super simple watercolor project that's perfect for all skill levels. Watercolor can be an intimidating and somewhat unforgiving medium, but it can also be a free-flowing color party!

I designed the class to remove the scariness and make it easy to jump in. We cover everything from gathering supplies to mixing colors to completing an entire work of art. For the more advanced watercolor junkies, the grid project is a great way to get out of your head and loosen up some new creative ideas.

So why work on a grid?

In the class I talk a little bit about the process of working on a grid and some famous artists who work within grids and other geometric rules. Working within boundaries can help make the work cohesive and symmetrical, but it can also be a surprisingly great way to get more spontaneous and creative with your work.

Some of the best ideas pop up when you're pushing against a restriction and you're forced to come up with something new and different to make a simple box more interesting. The watercolor grid project that I walk you through can be a work of art in itself or magical creative unblocking exercise.

Making the same lines and shapes over and over can be really relaxing and meditative. Once you get into the flow, your conscious mind gets a break and your subconscious mind is free to think of wild and crazy schemes for your next project.
